Hiking in Singapore

Despite being known as a city-state, Singapore is not merely a concrete jungle. In fact, our island nation has little pockets of greenery that will allow you to feel as if you have stepped into another world.

From Tampines Eco Garden in the East to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in the West, we have listed down six hiking trails that you might want to visit for a nice day out with your family or friends. However, do take note that Safe distancing measures should be observed at all times.

1) Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk

If you’re lucky enough, you might have a close encounter with the animals as you walk along Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk with your friends and family. It is also a popular place for photographers to capture wildlife in the mangrove, such as snakes, mud lobster and mudskippers. The mangrove canopy provides shade along the boardwalk.

Right next to the Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk is Pasir Ris Park, where you can enjoy a nice walk along the beach or have a picnic. Do observe safe distancing measures while you are at it!

2) Tampines Eco Garden

A small note is to wear covered shoes and watch your steps. There are a lot of plant litter (e.g dried leaves, twigs and soils) on the floor and it might be uncomfortable when it gets into your shoes. The roots of the trees blend in well with the floor, so be careful to not trip on those!

Though there is lesser shade as compared to Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk, it is perfect if you are looking for a good tan.

3) Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is great for those who love to be close to nature. There are many trails along the path to the summit that you can explore if you have time!

Even though the journey to the summit may take less than an hour, it may still pose a challenge to those who are new to hiking as it can be quite steep.

4) Hindhede Nature Park

Situated right next to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, the Hindhede Nature Park offers an easy trail for hiking beginners. There is a look-out point overlooking the Hindhede Quarry that would be nice to idle at in the morning. The Hindhede Nature Park is a good alternative to those who prefer short hikes as it takes less than 20 minutes to get to the look-out point.

It is a good option if you simply need a short walk to de-stress.

6) Bedok Reservoir

Located near Temasek Polytechnic, the large water body provides a fantastic experience for walking as it will help cool you off with a cool reservoir breeze. Additionally, you can admire the beautiful scenery of the reservoir accompanied by the shade of the trees. If you are feeling tired, take a seat on the many benches placed around the reservoir or hang out with a friend under the shade of the pagoda.
